README.GLDAS-MOLTS.e691.n1.txt File format: ASCII Filename convention: var_site_eopx.M.dat where var is variable name and site is CEOP reference site name listed below, EOPx ranges from 1 to 4, and M is first letter of LSM. Contents: Model Output Location Time Series (MOLTS) from Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) 1 degree simulation using Noah 2.7.1 land surface model, experiment 691. This simulation was forced by a combination of NOAA/GDAS atmospheric analysis fields, spatially and temporally disaggregated NOAA Climate Prediction Center Merged Analysis of Precipitation (CMAP), and observation based downward shortwaveand longwave radiation fields derived using the method of the Air Force Weather Agency's AGRicultural METeorological modeling system. EOP1 period: starting at 00Z 1 July 2001 and ending at 21Z 30 September 2001. EOP2 period: starting at 00Z 1 October 2001 and ending at 21Z 30 September 2002. EOP3 period: starting at 00Z 1 October 2002 and ending at 21Z 30 September 2003. EOP4 period: starting at 00Z 1 October 2003 and ending at 21Z 31 December 2004. Files are organized into directories by field, and within each directory there is one data file for each EOP period per reference site. The files are ascii format, and each record is a single 3-hourly output value (real). Therefore there are 92 days x 8 recs/day = 736 records in each EOP1 file, 365 days x 8 recs/day = 2920 records in each EOP2 file, 365 days x 8 recs/day = 2920 records in each EOP3 file, and 458 days x 8 recs/day = 3664 records in each EOP4 file. X, Y coordinates of GLDAS MOLTS points as of January 2006: listed at http://www.joss.ucar.edu/ghp/ceopdm/model/molts_world_list.html Some coastal and island reference site points did not align with GLDAS model points. In these cases the nearest point was used, if one was available (**), however, for three island locations there was no model point in the vicinity (>>>). 1) 195 113 Lindenberg (lon= 14.12,lat= 52.17) 2) 185 112 Cabauw (lon= 4.93,lat= 51.97) 3) 207 128 Sodankyla (lon= 26.65,lat= 67.37) 4) 198 121 Norunda (lon= 17.48,lat= 60.08) 5) 183 70 Oueme (lon= 2.0,lat= 9.5) 6) 183 74 Niamey (lon= 2.5,lat= 13.5) 7) 83 97 ARM Southern Great Plains (lon= -97.49,lat= 36.61) 8) 92 101 Bondville (lon= -88.29,lat= 40.01) 9) 75 109 Fort Peck (lon= -105.1,lat= 48.31) 10) 96 96 Oak Ridge (lon= -84.29,lat= 35.96) 11) 70 93 Mt.
